(RepublicanDaily.org) – A judge ruled on the release of a grand jury on whether the Trump campaign had committed election interference in the 2020 presidential election in the state of Georgia, The Guardian reported.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney in Fulton County, Georgia, heard arguments over whether to release a grand jury’s report on Donald Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the election results in the state. NowThis News broadcast the hearing.
Fulton county district attorney Fani Willis “strongly hinted” that she could prosecute former president Donald Trump “for the first time in American history,” The Guardian reported. NBC News reported that, despite Willis’ intent to prosecute, she had not publicly stated whether she wished for the report to be released, as of the morning of January 24.
During the afternoon of January 24, Willis said decisions on the release “were imminent,” Politico reported. Willis reportedly urged Judge McBurney not to release the documents associated with her year-long investigation.
However, Judge McBurney said he would not “make rash decisions” over the public release.
Jurors recommend making the special purpose grand jury’s findings public. A public release would show whether recommendations had been made to pursue charges. NBC noted that, as of the time of this report, former President Trump has not been subpoenaed concerning this case.
The judge notified the court that there would be a public notice before decisions were made.
Trump has said that he intends to run for reelection in the 2024 presidential election cycle. Criminal prosecution may legally prevent him from eligibility. Democrats and Republicans ramp up the rhetoric surrounding presidential election politics as public scandals, such as the Biden and Trump classified documents possession scandals, loom over the 2024 presidential election cycle.
New district attorney of Arizona, Democrat Kris Mayes said that she will “repurpose” the special unit created under the former Republican attorney general to investigate election fraud. Mayes said the special unit would now focus on using the unit to boost voting rights, The Guardian reported.
