(RepublicanDaily.org) – Joe Biden has been busy deciding who should take up important federal positions. On Tuesday, January 19, his team announced via Twitter that Dr. Rachel Levine had been tapped to take up the role of assistant health secretary.
Currently serving as Pennsylvania Health secretary, Levine’s practicing background is in pediatrics. She would be the first openly transgender federal official to receive approval from the US Senate.
President-elect Biden has nominated Dr. Levine to serve as Assistant HHS Secretary. A deeply experienced public servant and public health expert, she is poised to become the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.https://t.co/REmjFd98Hl

Levine came in for sharp criticism earlier this year due to her failure to address the problem of COVID-19 in Pennsylvanian nursing homes. There were calls for her to resign after it emerged that she allowed COVID-positive patients to return to care homes, causing spikes in infection rates in some facilities. She also courted controversy when she took her elderly mother out of a personal care home during a surge in case numbers in May.
Biden has referred to Levin as a “historic and deeply qualified choice” for this role. Her history certainly proves otherwise.
