Husband Sentenced After Attempting Hit on Wife

(RepublicanDaily.org) – A man who tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife was sentenced to 10 years in jail on Monday, July 24. According to court testimony, 57-year-old Massimo Marenghi tried to pay a man to murder his wife after she took out a restraining order against him in 2021. US Attorney Joshua Levy commented on Marenghi’s case, saying his “despicable” behavior is an example of how serious a problem “domestic violence” is in American society.

Authorities first became alerted to Marenghi’s situation in January of 2021 after an unnamed individual let them know that Marenghi wanted to kill his wife over a restraining order she’d put on him. Federal agents were alerted and told this individual to give Marenghi the number of a covert operator who would pretend to be an assassin and find out if Marenghi was serious in his intentions of committing this crime against his estranged wife.

Marenghi met with the undercover agent in the city of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and agreed to pay him $10,000 for the hit in addition to telling the man he thought was a contract assassin how to evade security cameras and not get caught on his wife’s property. In a follow up meeting, Marenghi gave the undercover agent a $1,500 downpayment toward the hit and more details and images on how to successfully kill her without being detected. This evidence showed a clear intention by Marenghi to go through with the hit as well as photographic and detailed layout information of his wife’s home that provided the would-be killer a way to successfully murder her and get away without being caught. Prosecutors used this evidence to successfully argue their case and get a conviction.

After being arrested following the evidence from his meetups with the man he thought was a contract killer, Marenghi pleaded guilty to trying to hire somebody to murder his wife, leading to his trial and sentencing on Monday. He will now spend 10 years in prison.
