House Passes War Package for Ukraine

House PASSES IT – 368 To 57!

(RepublicanDaily.org) – The Russian invasion of Ukraine has now been ongoing for nearly 11 weeks, and it shows no sign of stopping soon. Western powers, including the United States, have aided the country and levied serious sanctions on Russia. Despite division on the issue, the House of Representatives voted in favor of a large financial aid package for Ukraine on Tuesday, May 10, according to the New York Times.

In a 368-57 vote, the House passed a bill that aims to spend $40 billion on military and humanitarian aid for Ukraine. This follows a previous $13.6-billion bill for the same purpose earlier in the year. If the second bill passes into law, the pair will collectively amount to the biggest foreign aid package from the US in over 20 years.

The 57 votes against the bill all came from Republican lawmakers. However, 149 GOP representatives voted to advance the measure, including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

The bill is now on its way to the evenly-split Senate. However, the upper house may not vote on the measure until next week.

Do you think this is an appropriate use of tax money at a time when many Americans are struggling to pay for basic necessities?
