(RepublicanDaily.org) – The festive period is generally a time of joy, celebration, and looking forward to a new year. Unfortunately, that means when someone dies at this time, we feel their loss even more keenly. Celebrated Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallée, 58, passed away on Christmas Day. His remains were found in his cabin outside Quebec City on December 26.
Born in Montreal, the director was known for a number of high-profile projects in film and television, including Big Little Lies, Wild, Sharp Objects, and Dallas Buyers Club. The latter of these is perhaps his most famous project; it’s a raw, tender examination of a Texas man fighting for his life after an AIDS diagnosis. It attracted critical acclaim worldwide and bagged acting Oscars for Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.
Tributes have poured in from the world of film and television. Actress Laura Dern was among those to pay their respects on social media.
Beautiful Jean-Marc Vallee. The world has lost one of our great and purest artists and dreamers. And we lost our beloved friend. Our hearts are broken. pic.twitter.com/v9WXikI48e

The cause of Vallée’s death is currently undetermined. The 58-year-old did not drink and was known to be avidly dedicated to health and fitness. A preliminary coroner’s report revealed it was likely not a case of murder, suicide, or known illness. He leaves behind two sons, Alex and Emile.
May he rest in peace.
