Hillary Clinton Accuses GOP of Propping Up Putin

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has found himself plastered across American headlines this week in the wake of his Geneva Summit with President Joe Biden. Most commentators appear to agree that the meeting wasn’t a hugely productive one. However, there was still plenty to chew on in terms of the statements and body language of the two leaders, with some remarking that Biden made himself look weak.

Of course, for the Democratic inner circle, none of these criticisms are part of the picture.

Hillary Clinton Weighs In

On Wednesday, June 16, former first lady, former secretary of state, and failed 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe to discuss what was happening in Switzerland. She said the summit was a good idea that had the potential to be worthwhile. The summit had not concluded at the time of the interview; the general consensus has been that Biden and Putin made little concrete progress in any area.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take her long to launch an attack on the GOP. She accused Republicans of espousing the authoritarian model of government preferred by Putin and his allies.

Clinton was highly critical of President Vladimir Putin, saying he represented a “continuing challenge” for the US. She said he would try to “prod, undermine, and… make our lives difficult,” even after parties had reached an agreement on a certain topic.

Trump, Biden, & Putin: How the Approaches Differ

It almost goes without saying that Donald Trump had a very different approach than Joe Biden when it came to Vladimir Putin. His relations with the Russian leader were indeed relatively friendly, though Trump was not a “spokesperson” for Putin, as Hillary Clinton alleged. In fact, Trump imposed around 40 sets of sanctions on Russia during his presidency, including expelling 60 Russian diplomats from American shores in 2018.

Trump, therefore, appeared to be able to strike a balance between firmness and friendship when it came to Russia. Will Joe Biden reach a similar point of equilibrium? Hillary Clinton characterized Biden as a leader who would “stand up and defend American interests” in the face of Putin’s hostility. Only time will tell.

Despite the numerous high-profile controversies the Clinton family has found themselves embroiled in, Bill and Hillary remain royalty within the ranks of the Democratic party. People will likely be hearing their input on matters of public importance for years to come, despite the fact, neither of them currently holds an elected office.
