GOP Announces Moderators for 2nd Debate in September

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Stuart Varney, Dana Perino, and Ilia Calderón will be the moderators for the next Republican presidential debate, which will be broadcast on Fox Business Network and UNIVISION.

Varney is a veteran host of Fox Business and hosts “Varney & Co.,” a top-rated business program that focuses on market movements and the economy. Perino is a co-anchor and co-host on Fox Business’ “America’s Newsroom”, “The Five.” Her primary expertise is coverage on political and cultural issues, and she has sat down with a number of industry bigwigs such as Facebook / Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Perino also co-anchored the pre-show for the first Republican primary debate. Calderón is co-anchor of NOTICIERO UNIVISION, UNIVISIONS’ flagship weekday evening newscast, and was a co-moderator at the last 2020 Democratic primary debate between Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.

Former president Donald Trump is qualified to attend the debate, but he indicated before the first one, which was broadcast also under the Fox network umbrella, that he would “THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!”, since the “public knows who I am” and knows “what a successful Presidency I had”. He did skip the first debate in favor of a pre-taped interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that aired on Twitter (now known as X), but he has not indicated since whether or not he will do the same a second-time around.

In the previous debate, biotech businessman Vivek Ramaswamy stole the spotlight with his combative, aggressive and Trump-esque statements, which got him into some heated discussions with a number of co-participants in the debate, such as former South Carolina governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, former vice president Mike Pence, as well as former New Jersey governor Chris Christie. Haley is another candidate expected to do well; Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio said that Haley and Ramaswamy, are expected to outdo Florida Governor Ron DeSantis soon. DeSantis is a far second place to Trump in the polls.

The debate will take place at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, and will air on September 27. UNIVISION will be airing the debate in Spanish.
