Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Makes Foreign Trips

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made a foreign trip to Japan, USA Today reported, as part of a series of world trip to U.S. supporting countries. During his diplomatic visit, DeSantis praised Japan and reportedly “dismissed” his rivalry with former President Donald Trump, who he is expected to run against for the Republican nomination in the 2024 Presidential cycle.

At the time of this report, DeSantis had not yet formally announced his anticipated 2024 Presidential campaign. He is reportedly expected to announce a campaign bid in May or June.

As DeSantis dismissed his Trump rivalry, Trump’s campaign team ramped up their sponsorships in DeSantis’ home state of Florida, Five Thirty-Eight reported. It was reported that Trump’s Florida endorsements started as early as November, began to gradually drip in from March and April, and have since increased “to a flood.”

Trump was vocally critical of DeSantis’ “round the world” tour of “U.S. representative population countries.” In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that DeSantis was making his tour of countries that support the United States, such as Japan, South Korea, and Israel in an attempt to “remove the stain” of his “failing campaign.”

DeSantis’ numbers are starting to dip at the polls because his “culture war” is “turning off Republicans,” Newsweek reported. Despite the poll cool-off on the national level, Thomas Gift, a professor of U.S. politics interviewed by Newsweek, explained that it was not hard to “understand” the “political impulses” of DeSantis, because his hard stance on the “woke” liberal culture was the political agenda that led him to win the Florida governor’s office by “20 percent” points of the vote.

Even as Trump mocked DeSantis for his world tour, foreign leaders agreed to meet with him. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he would “meet with DeSantis” when he came to Israel during the last week of April, Politico reported. Netanyahu explained to ABC News’ Face the Nation that “of course” he would meet with DeSantis because it was customary for him to meet with American governors on both sides of the political aisle. He explained that it was his responsibility to meet with “every American representative” because it was an important part of Israel’s diplomatic relations with the United States.
