(RepublicanDaily.org) – Slade Sohmer, former editor-in-chief of the liberal online news site The Recount, has been charged in a Massachusetts court with charges related to possession and distribution of pornographic material featuring children.
Sohmer is currently out on $100,000 bail after being brought up on two counts of dissemination of child pornography, as well as another two counts of possession of child pornography. If found guilty, he will be looking at a minimum of 10 years in jail for the dissemination of child pornography and five years for the possession of child pornography charges. Sohmer has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The charges stem from content found by investigators in Sohmer’s electronic devices, which were seized after authorities managed so secure a search warrant for their contents. Investigators received a tip on Sohmer in June. Detectives reportedly found “thousands” of images depicting children being abused – even children as young as three or four years old, according to a story from People.com. Police added that they believe that at least one video was produced by the suspect.
Liberal organizations that were once affiliated with Sohmer were quick to distance themselves from him. The Recount issued a statement saying that Sohmer was let go of in early October “following a company restructuring exercise.”
BuzzFeed, a progressive online publication that put out a story in 2018 celebrating Sohmer over a “touching” conversation he had with fourth-graders that also touched on his sexuality, has taken the story down. In the story, Sohmer, who is gay, recounted his relief when he said that “none of these precocious ********, like, give a ****” when he said that he lived with his boyfriend.
Sohmer’s temporary release comes with strict set of restrictions, which include no access to the Internet or any contact with minors.
