Elon Musk, President Biden Sign a Deal for EV Charging Station Access

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Elon Musk, billionaire innovator and CEO of Tesla electric vehicle company, has signed a deal with the federal government to make the Tesla electric vehicle charging stations compatible with other electric vehicles, The Los Angeles Times reported. Musk has pledged to provide “7,500 open access vehicle chargers” within the United States by the end of 2024.

The Biden administration offered Musk a $7.5 Billion subsidy package to make the electric vehicle station accessible, Fox News Milwaukee reported.

The new Tesla commitment will reportedly make Tesla chargers compatible with electric vehicles manufactured by other U.S. and foreign automakers, including Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Volvo, Volkswagen, and others.

The deal was reached as part of the Biden administration’s Build Back Better plan. The Build Back Better legislation invested in the national infrastructure with a large sum of funds vested toward electric vehicle charging stations.

Biden seeks to make electric vehicles more affordable to the average consumer “to combat climate change”, Fox News reported. Biden has “lofty ambitions” for the electric vehicle market, hoping to make half of all new auto sales in the electric vehicle space by 2030.

The accessibility of Tesla chargers to other automakers is a massive development, Axios wrote. This is because other electric vehicle charging stations are difficult to find, and often malfunction. The accessibility of the massive Tesla network will make electric vehicles more practical to use across the United States.

Tesla currently dominates the plug-in vehicle market, holding a 14% market share, Fox News reported.

On February 10, the U.S. Department of Transportation, along with the U.S. Department of Energy, announced a $5 billion over 5-year plan for the national EV charging network, the Federal Highway Administration announced. This was another step in the Biden bipartisan infrastructure plan, the FHA wrote.
