Ted Cruz Takes Victory Lap After Right-Wing Prime Minister Elected in Italy
(RepublicanDaily.org) – In a major milestone for the rise of conservatism in Central Europe, Giorgia Meloni won Italy’s general election and is now set to become the country’s prime minister. Analysts believe her government will be Italy’s most conservative since the end of World War II. In the United States, a number of the GOP have praised Italy’s electorate following the result, including Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX).
On Monday, September 26, Cruz shared the tweet below celebrating a speech by the newly-elected Italian leader. Over the course of just over two minutes of footage, Meloni issues a scathing takedown of left-wing ideals. She claims her leadership will focus on the promotion of individual rights and family values, and commits to fighting liberal attempts to work against these principles.

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) also took to Twitter to congratulate Meloni, communicating his commitment to working with her and other Italian officials going forward. He claimed Italy’s likely direction under Meloni’s stewardship would be good for the US. Other Conservatives who celebrated the result included Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Kari Lake, a Republican candidate for governor in Arizona.
Congratulations to Giorgia Meloni and the winners of the Italian elections. We look forward to working with her and other Italian leaders to advance our shared interests. America is stronger when Italy is strong, sovereign, prosperous, and free.

However, not everyone was pleased about her win. Democratic Senator Chris Murphy (CT) tweeted that the video Cruz referenced was “full of made up straw men.”
Watch this. It's full of made up straw men (like the idea that the left is attacking family identity) and fake populism (the right isn't actually interested in fighting consumerism), but it's good encapsulation of the international new right. https://t.co/BIGp5vmYrH
