Democrats Prepare for Presidential Election, as Biden May Not Run Again

(RepublicanDaily.org) – President Joe Biden may not run for president a second time in 2024 and top Democrats are preparing for this possibility, Politico reported. Political analysts state that Biden appears “no longer certain” of his second campaign, and the leading Democrats are preparing for the possibility that the president will not seek reelection.

This possibility follows months of preparation that Biden’s advisers have reportedly been going over with him. Biden had declared publicly that he would attempt reelection again when a reporter asked him what his intentions were, The Hill wrote in November. While there reportedly is no hard deadline in place for launching a presidential campaign, the Biden administration’s plan for 2024 is uncertain. Those people within Biden’s immediate circle, however, believe the president will ultimately “give the all-clear” to proceed with the campaign, Politico reported.

Yet, as this happens, Democrats move forward with a costly and complex Plan B to proceed should the 80-year-old president not run again. The Governors J.B. Pritzker (D. Illinois), Gavin Newsom (D. California), and Phil Murphy (D. New Jersey), as well as Democratic Senators Bernie Sanders and Amy Klobuchar have been “taking steps” to run for president potentially, Politico analyzed.

As Biden’s candidacy looked less certain, a top 10 list of Democrats were selected as possible contenders by The Washington Post. In November, The Hill also narrowed down a list of possible contenders, which included Vice President Kamala Harris, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, and Gavin Newsom. The BBC mused on the possible contenders also, stating that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would turn 35, the minimum age to run for president, one month before the elections.

As the Democratic ticket for 2024 remains uncertain, Republicans are beginning to line up their candidacies. Diplomat and Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced her presidential campaign earlier in February. Former President Donald Trump has already begun to push his campaign agenda. While yet to be announced, other contenders are considering runs, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, and others.
