Court Hands Down Major Second Amendement Ruling

(RepublicanDaily.org) – With President Joe Biden in the White House, we’re currently living under one of the most anti-gun regimes in living memory. Biden signed a series of executive actions earlier this year to restrict gun rights and access to firearms, though they’re limited in scope because of the Second Amendment. Still, it’s a worrying trend for gun advocates to behold.

However, proponents of the Second Amendment can take encouragement from a recent federal court ruling in Richmond, Virginia. On Tuesday, July 13, the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit held that a rule banning the sale of handguns to adults under the age of 21 was inconsistent with the Second Amendment. The overturned provision, which President Lyndon Johnson signed into law in 1968, originally allowed those under 21 to purchase shotguns and rifles only.

Conservative leaders, such as Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and Second Amendment advocates, have quickly celebrated the verdict.

However, it’s not all good news for gun enthusiasts. A recent state ruling in Florida upheld a 2018 law banning the sale of weapons to those under 21. Also, Tuesday’s federal ruling was not a unanimous one; some judges favored retaining the ban on purchases of handguns by those under 21. These inconsistencies mean a SCOTUS ruling will likely be necessary to clear up the law in this area. Still, it’s a win for gun rights.
