Coast Guard Rescues Immigrants From Stuck Boat Off US Coast

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Undocumented migrants continue to attempt entry to the US in record numbers. While a significant percentage are apprehended and detained, many others manage to escape detection. Of course, a lot of migrants use unconventional (and dangerous) methods of transportation to achieve this.

In the early hours of Monday, May 17, the US Coast Guard along with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents came to the aid of a boat containing 23 illegal immigrants off the coast of California, near San Diego. The “panga type vessel” found itself stuck in kelp in the area and did not respond to the commands of Coast Guard officials. The 20 Mexicans and 3 Guatemalans on board have been taken into custody.

A similar human trafficking event ended in tragedy in a nearby area nearly three weeks ago, when three people died after the boat they were on capsized. Luckily, no serious injuries were reported on this occasion. However, with maritime apprehensions having increased dramatically since President Joe Biden took office, another fatal incident is far from unlikely.
