(RepublicanDaily.org) – COVID-19 testing is a key tool in the fight against the proliferation of the virus, allowing infected Americans to learn of their status as early as possible to avoid spreading the illness. Unfortunately, because of the rise of the Omicron variant, the supply of test kits has become an issue. We’re now seeing some mixed messages from the Biden Administration about this problem.
On December 6, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki seemingly laughed off the idea of sending free tests out to American homes when a reporter asked her during the press briefing. Her reasoning was it would be wasteful, as many people wouldn’t need them.
However, given the recent uptick in cases, it might no longer be such a ridiculous prospect. On Tuesday, December 21, CNN reporter Jeff Zeleny reminded Psaki of her previous dismissive remark on the subject and asked whether she would revise her position in light of the Omicron variant and rising case numbers. Psaki didn’t address his question directly, but did clarify the Biden administration intended to make tests “free and accessible,” but would not be sending them directly to homes.

As noted in the tweet above, the expenses associated with free tests pale in comparison with those of COVID hospitalizations. Is it time for the White House to up its game in this regard?
