Migrant SMUGGLING Link Found – A Horrifying Connection

(RepublicanDaily.org) – Online platforms are highly convenient facilities in many ways. They’ve made it easier for us to communicate with each other, conduct business, shop for goods and services, and much more. Unfortunately, these powerful systems have also created countless new risks, especially for the more vulnerable members of our society. A new government report has suggested social media has created new avenues for criminals to smuggle people into the United States.

Earlier this month, the Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV) Border Patrol revealed that international criminal groups are targeting minors on social media platforms as part of their hiring efforts. The gangs connect with individuals as young as 13 to entice them to work as drivers and mules.

When the criminals initially approach youths, they convince their young targets that minors will not face adult penalties if US authorities apprehend them with drugs or illegal immigrants in their vehicles. The gang leaders also persuade youths that American authorities are less likely to engage in sustained pursuits in dangerous conditions, resulting in deliberately erratic and risky driving by the underage smugglers.

The report states RGV agents have been involved in at least 99 vehicle pursuits already this fiscal year, and 257 such pursuits last year. In many cases, the vehicles officers chase will have more passengers than they’re designed to carry, adding to the safety risk.
