(RepublicanDaily.org) – Soon after President Joe Biden’s inauguration in January of this year, a surge in undocumented immigration attempts began on the southern border. Detention centers have since been overflowing. According to NPR, many unaccompanied children have been housed in detention facilities for longer than the legal maximum of 72 hours without being turned over to HHS. However, until recently, you’d never have known this by the White House discourse on the matter. Neither the president nor his staff seemed to acknowledge that the issue had become a full-blown crisis.
This is changing, however. On Saturday, April 17, President Biden spoke to reporters briefly after playing golf in Delaware. One asked about the refugee cap of 15,000, the limit that existed during Donald Trump’s term of office. The Biden administration recently announced it intended to retain that cap for this year, courting the disapproval of Progressives who wanted a much higher limit.
Biden is realising now that the border crisis is very damaging for Democrats. https://t.co/EawAgPi5k6

Speaking on Saturday, Biden committed to “increase the number,” though he failed to elaborate on how or by how much. Notably, he also finally referred to the border situation as “the crisis,” which is perhaps the first real acknowledgment of it from the president or his staff.
