AOC Once Again Threatens to Leave Twitter

(RepublicanDaily.org) – It’s no secret that New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (or AOC, as she is more commonly known) isn’t a fan of Elon Musk, much less the new policies he has enacted since he took over Twitter (which he has rebranded as “X”), but the lawmaker, with a very substantial 13.2 million followers, continues to use the platform.

That may change in the future though, as AOC, speaking to the New York Times, broached the idea of possibly leaving the popular social media platform. The progressive lawmaker, who has consistently been the loudest and most prominent voice in the far-left, said that she has been discussing what sort of situation would prompt – and how she would define – a “formal break” from Twitter, or just simply quit the social media site one day. Twitter and social media play an integral part of the way AOC engages with her constituents, which is why she says leaving Twitter is not a decision she would make lightly.

Ocasio-Cortez has, blasted Elon Musk repeatedly on his own platform. In a recent exchange between the two the NY representative hit back at a tweet from Twitter Safety – an administrator account – that claimed “more than 99%” of advertisers and content users on the platform were “heathy,” citing use of artificial intelligence technology to “measure and reduce” hate speech on the site.

“I have never experienced more harassment on this platform than I do now,” AOC tweeted, saying that the option for users to simply pay for a verified account allows harassers to give themselves more visibility and legitimacy. She also criticized the removal of verified status from prominent figures, journalists, civic organizations, and the like, which she said “made it impossible to follow conversations.” Ocasio-Cortez said she wished Twitter “could be usable again.”

Musk responded, “Methinks somebody doth protest too much…”

Ocasio-Cortez has also taken issue with Musk’s supposed boosting of a supposed fake account impersonating her, despite the account – then called Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Press Release (parody) – clearly containing the word “parody” in the heading. The @AOCPress account has since changed its heading to “ElonMusk(Parody).”

In response, the Twitter and Tesla CEO tweeted back a “fire” emoji.
