2 Things You Need to Know About Amy Coney Barrett

7th US Circuit Court of Appeals

(RepublicanDaily.org) – After Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death in September, President Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett as her replacement. She was subsequently sworn in, but not many people know these important details about our newest Supreme Court judge.

Legal Pedigree

After Donald Trump picked her, many commentators (predictably) began to complain she was unsuitable for the job. However, it’s difficult to make that case on the basis of her legal background; Amy Coney Barrett has a stellar resume.

She graduated summa cum laude from Notre Dame Law School in 1997. In 1998, she began clerking for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. She went on to work as a professor at Notre Dame from 2002 to 2017 before serving as a judge on the 7th US Circuit Court of Appeals. This was the position she held when Trump nominated her to the Supreme Court.

Family Values

Amy Coney Barrett’s dedication to the preservation of traditional values is perhaps her defining characteristic. A mother to seven children (two of whom were adopted from Haiti), she favors a more restrictive interpretation of the abortion laws set out by Roe v. Wade. However, she’s stated she does not think it appropriate for judges’ personal views (religious or otherwise) to affect their work.

At 48-years-old, Amy Coney Barrett should have a long Supreme Court career ahead of her. Conservatives across America will be observing her work with great interest.
